Ligue 1 2025-26: Neves scores in injury time as PSG beat Lyon to stay top

Injury-hit Paris Saint-Germain scored the winner deep into stoppage time for the second game in a row, beating Lyon 3-2 to stay two points clear at the top of Ligue 1.

Lyon’s defenders failed to track João Neves after a corner from the left, and the midfielder headed home from close range five minutes into extra time, a week after Gonçalo Ramos headed home in the final seconds of stoppage time against Nice.

PSG are two points ahead of second-placed Marseille and third-placed Lens, who are separated by goal difference.

PSG coach Luis Enrique was without Ousmane Dembele (calf tear), right back Achraf Hakimi (ankle sprain) and left back Nuno Mendes (knee sprain) on Tuesday after the defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Rising star Désiré Doué (thigh fracture) was also missing.

Midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery, deployed as right back, put PSG ahead in the 26th minute with an angled drive that flew over goalkeeper Dominik Greif’s left shoulder.

Hosts Lyon equalized four minutes later when Zaire-Emery failed to follow Afonso Moreira’s run behind him after a long ball, and the Portuguese striker fired into the left corner.

Usually a winger, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia started up front for PSG and put the visitors 2-1 ahead in the 33rd after American midfielder Tanner Tessmann lost the ball on the edge of the penalty area.

But Lyon equalized again shortly after half-time through former Arsenal defender Ainsley Maitland-Niles. He grabbed a long ball and fired a lob for the first time from 25 meters, which sailed over the head of goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

World Cup-winning Argentine defender Nicolas Tagliafico was sent off in stoppage time for Lyon for a second yellow card. Moments later, PSG were awarded a corner and Lyon punished.
