Satadru Dutta, the main organizer of Lionel Messi’s GOAT Tour of India, has been denied bail by the Biddhannagar District Magistrate and ordered to 14-day police custody.
Dutta was arrested at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Saturday while he was on his way to Hyderabad, hours after the Kolkata leg of the GOAT Tour ended in total chaos at the Salt Lake Stadium.
He was brought to court on Sunday and subsequently taken into police custody.
The Kolkata leg of the GOAT Tour is expected to last around four hours from 9 am with Shah Rukh Khan, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and former India captain Sourav Ganguly among the guests.
However, Messi remained at the venue for around 20 minutes before making an early exit, with only VIPs and a select few able to catch a clear view of the Argentine legend.
That infuriated the spectators, who stormed the ground, threw water bottles, tore down posters and damaged seats, with many expressing their anger after charging Rs. 20,000 for entry.
West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar later said that the organizer had given written assurance that the ticket amount would be refunded.
«We have convinced the organizer; he has given a written undertaking that the tickets sold will be refunded. The situation is now under control. We have arrested the main organizer and ensured that this mismanagement does not go unpunished and that the fans are adequately compensated,» Rajeev said.
