Lionel Messi in New Delhi — Messi’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the GOAT India Tour has been cancelled

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi will not meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday during his stop in New Delhi as part of the GOAT India Tour.

Messi, who is in India on a three-day tour, had a chaotic experience at the Salt Lake Stadium during his first stop in Kolkata but things have gone smoothly since then in Hyderabad and Mumbai respectively.

Messi was scheduled to meet Modi in the national capital and a 21-minute protocol was drawn up for the same, which was canceled late in the day before the meeting.

Modi will instead travel to Oman, Ethiopia and Jordan on a four-day visit where he will discuss bilateral ties between India and the three countries.

“Today I embark on a three-country visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Sultanate of Oman, three countries with which India shares both centuries-old civilizational ties and extensive contemporary bilateral relations,” the Prime Minister said in a statement before leaving India.

Meanwhile, Messi is likely to meet cricketer Virat Kohli, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan and Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, among others, during his visit to New Delhi.

His trip will conclude with a felicitation event at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where he will conduct a coaching clinic, followed by a meet-and-greet with young players from the Minerva Academy, who won three European youth trophies earlier this year.
