Lionel Messi expanded his record score in Major League Soccer with two more goals in a 2-1 win for host Inter Miami on Nashville SC on Saturday evening in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Messi’s Brace helped inter Miami (11-3-5, 38 points) to make a club record 15-game unbeaten streak over all competitions for Nashville (12-5-5, 41 points), which lost in Seattle for the first time since 19 April.
Messi scored two or more goals for the fifth consecutive time in an MLS competition – a competition record.
Inter Miami improved to 4-0-1 in his last five games with Nashville and also won his fifth consecutive MLS competition in general.
Miami has won three in a row since Paris Saint.-Germain eliminated it on June 29 in the round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Messi benefited from a big mistake by the goalkeeper Joe Willis van Nashville to score the final decisive goal in the 62nd minute on Saturday. Willis held a ball and tried to remove it from his zone, but kicked the right in the direction of Messi.
Messi intercepted it with his left foot and then worked the ball around Willis and shot him home to make Miami a lead forever.
The goal came 13 minutes after Hany Mukhtar van Nashville came on the game on 1 Bond with a perfectly timed header from a Pinpoint Cross from distance by Andy Najar. It was the 10th goal of Mukhtar of the season. Patrick Yazbek also had an assist.
The first goal of Messi came in the 17th minute on another spectacular free -step goal. Messi shot a ball exactly through an opening in the wall set up by the defenders of Nashville, and it just thought the mark was out of the reach of a diving Willis.
The 16 goals of Messi are the most bound in the competition with Sam Surridge of Nashville, which was loved from the score sheet on Saturday. This season Messi has 23 target contributions in MLS competitions and has 22 goals in all competitions.
Both parties will return to action on Wednesday: Inter Miami will play in Cincinnati and Nashville will organize Columbus.
