Lionel Messi scores twice as Inter Miami beats 10-man Orlando City in Major League Soccer

Lionel Messi scored a brace on Sunday as Inter Miami defeated Orlando City 3-2 in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Florida derby at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando.

Orlando took the lead in the first half, with Marco Pasalic and Martin Ojeda finding the net six minutes before the half-hour mark.

Miami decided to switch gears after the break, replacing fullback Noah Allen with Mateo Silvetti. The change made an immediate impact as he switched from a Telasco Segovia within four minutes of taking the field.

Segovia orchestrated another attack eight minutes later, assisting Messi and helping Miami get back into the match. Messi scored from the edge of the penalty area, which was his first goal in the competition in 2026.

The Argentine then returned the favor in the 85th minute when he left it to Segovia, who curled the ball in to complete the comeback.

Orlando’s evening went from bad to worse when Colin Guske fouled Messi in the final moments of regular time, picking up his second yellow card and reducing his side to ten men.

Messi took the free kick and found the net to secure Miami’s first-ever win over Orlando in all competitions.
