Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami beats Vancouver Whitecaps to win the 2025 MLS Cup final

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami won its first MLS Cup title on Sunday after beating Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 in the final at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

The little Argentinian legend scored two goals. He first won the suspension, sliding in Rodrigo De Paul midway through the second half to give Inter Miami a 2-1 lead, before sending off Tadeo Allende in stoppage time to confirm the result.

Inter Miami had taken the lead early in the match after Allende’s cutback attempt was deflected into his own net by Whitecaps defender Edier Ocampo, before Ali Ahmed’s deflected strike deflected off the post to level the scores after the half-way line.

This is the first time Inter Miami has won the MLS Cup, having advanced past the first round earlier this year. It is the third trophy the country has won since Messi joined the club, after the Leagues Cup in 2023 and the Supporters’ Shield in 2024.
