Day 92-17 miles today from Bromley Mountain Patrol Hut to Little Rock Pond Shelter, 2,400 feet tall, 3,500 feet below, to Mile Marker 1.678
The ski cabin
I arrived at Mount Bromley’s summit around 5:00 pm and I could see a storm in the west in my direction. The views from the top of Mount Bromley were spectacular views of 360 degrees of large mountains around them.
The ski patrol cabin was a closed building with windows, a small kitchen, picnic table and several 2 -foot wide platforms. I found a permethrin container that if someone had left behind, so I used the rest of the container in my hiking clothes.
While being inside a building was pleasant, it was a small building and I felt exposed. This was not like a shelter in the forest. This was an area of frequent hikers. I have to admit that it was a bit disturbing to be alone inside this building.
I fell asleep and for the most part I slept all night. I woke up several times when I heard a noise.
Sightseeing
This morning, the top of Mount Bromley was tarnished. I have not had too much luck with some of the most spectacular views.
It was a meaningless walk to Mad Tom Notch Road. I moved at a fairly fast pace of approximately 2 miles per hour and then I started the rise styles peak.
The path serpent through a dense fir and birch forest. After climbing, it was heading on a crest that seemed to have beautiful views on both sides, but the density of the forest kept the hidden views.
Water source
Then I descended abruptly to the Brooke upper lake area. The Superior Brooke Lake was the first water source since yesterday. I had a lot of water because yesterday I drink enough water on Mount Bromley in preparation for this long water transport. I got off at approximately one third of liter.
I assumed that the coming waterfall would be flooded with mosquitoes and flies, so I stopped about 3/4 from the water source mile in a sunny area with the hope that it will reduce the amount of flies and mosquitoes that would attack me while ate my cold ramen.
It was noon and only a hiker had passed in the southern direction all day. We both said Hello, but we both seem to be on a mission to continue in our respective directions, so we didn’t even stop.
Shower time
Shortly after stopping to eat, I went up to a small stream and decided that I would get my water there. I could also use my smart water bottle cover where I pierced a lot of holes to make a small shower lid. Using my doctor’s soap, I washed all the important parts of my body.
I was disappointed to look at the speed at which I have been traveling in general today. I’ve only been going to 1.5 mph. I had only gone 7 miles and I still had 10 more miles.
Around the Peru Peak shelter there were endless maritime walks to walk. He seemed to continue forever.
The path continued with some technical parts of rocks to navigate.
Symphony of Arroyo
The road came to a beautiful flat section where I could finally pick up some speed again. After passing the lost pond, the path continued parallel to a babbling stream. I couldn’t see it but I could hear it. I took my headphones to listen to the undulating water in the forest next to the path.
Finally, the path led Big Branch, which was the size of a small river and had many small waterfalls. A huge 50 -foot long suspension bridge covered the small gorge where the big curve was traveling.
Multitudes of people
I still had three more than my day.
The path came out in FS10 and a parking area that was full of cars. I had heard that my Little Rock Pond destination was an area of use of a great day.
The path serpent along a small and pleasant babbling stream to the shelter. After a day seeing a few people, now I kept going to hikers of several days on my way to the shelter.
The shelter was full of church group, but I found the last place in the shelter and prepared for the night.
