Liverpool draws Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt

Liverpool has signed the French striker Hugo Eintracht Frankfurt, announced the Premier League side on Wednesday, with media reports that say that the deal was worth 69 million pounds ($ 93.65 million) plus add-ons.

Ekitike is the second most expensive recruit by Liverpool in the short season after the Premier League champion Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz, who can also play as a winger or ahead, can play 100 million pounds plus add-ons in June.

«The 23-year-old has successfully completed a medical and agreed personal conditions with the Reds, so that he can fly to Hong Kong to join his new teammates later this week during their pre-season tour through Asia,» Liverpool said in a statement.

Former Paris Saint-Germain player Ekitike had a breakout campaign in 2024-25 and scored 15 Bundesliga objectives in 33 performances. He also struck four times when Frankfurt reached the quarterfinals of the Europa League.

Ekitike, who made his senior debut at Stade de Reims, joined PSG on loan in 2022 and made 25 Ligue 1 performances when it won the French top flight. He went on loan to Frankfurt in 2023, before he made the move permanent a year later.

«It is a strong story for him and Eintracht Frankfurt that he is moving to one of Europe’s top teams with the greatest ambitions and opportunities,» said Markus Kroesche of Frankfurt, Markus Kroesche, in a statement.

«Hugo has earned this step and it shows that we can offer players a great prospect.»

Liverpool starts his Premier League title defense at home against Bournemouth on August 15.
