Aston Villa overcame an early deficit to secure a 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, extending their winning streak to eight games.
This is the club’s longest winning streak in the English top flight since 1910, when the club recorded nine consecutive wins between October and December. If Unai Emery’s team beats top player Arsenal on Tuesday, it will equal that record.
In all competitions, Villa have won 11 matches, equaling the runs in September 1897 and March 1914.
However, Aston Villa are still some way off the all-time Premier League record. Manchester City (2017/18) and Liverpool (2019/20) have the longest streak with 18 games.
Liverpool also went on a 17-match winning run in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons. In total, there have been 27 cases of teams winning runs of more than eight games in the Premier League.
