Former Serbian International Nemanja Matic has reached a «friendly» agreement for the early termination of his contract with Lyon, said the Ligue 1 club Thursday.
The 37-year-old former Manchester United, Chelsea and Benfica midfielder’s contract had to be carried out until 30 June 2026.
However, the club has chosen to throw one of the best -paid players as part of its efforts to significantly reduce his payroll.

Matic arrived in January 2024 from League Rivals Rennes and played a key role in helping Lyon to relocate from last during the winter break 2023-2024 to finish sixth, to be eligible for the Europa League and played in the French Cup final, with 2-1 lost loss.
He has made a total of 58 performances for Lyon, who opens his campaign on RC Lens on Saturday.
Matic earned 48 caps for Serbia between 2008 and 2020.
