Major League Soccer: Messi Brace helps Inter Miami win against DC United

Superstar Lionel Messi scored two excellent goals and created another when Inter Miami DC United 3-2 beat on Saturday to inch closer to an MLS Cup Playoff ligplace.

In the midst of instructions this week from sources near the club that Messi is ready to sign a contract extension that would at least hold him in Miami until next year, the eight times Ballon d’Or winner showed why the club and Major League Soccer would love to see.

The 38-year-old now has 22 goals in 22 games that are being played this season. With his seventh double of the MLS season, he moved to the top of the competition scoring list and passed the English Sam Surridge, who has 21 for Nashville.

From the start, Miami dominated on a rainy night at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, against a team that has already been eliminated from Play -Off Stelling.

It took the lead in the 35th minute when Messi rated a good rated by the ball to Tadeo Allende, who defeated the goalkeeper Luis Barraza of United with his first touch and smoothly in the right corner of the net.

Christian Benteke led the visitor level in the 52nd minute.

Messi forced a few quick saves from Barraza before he shot back in the lead in the 66th minute, gathered a pass from Jordi Alba in the box and turned a left shot past Barraza.

Two minutes after he started as a replacement in the 69th minute, the Argentinian Mateo Silvetti was polluted in the box by Barraza.

The referee pointed to the place and the 19-year-old stepped up to take the stairs, but he made the attempt by the bar.

But Messi pushed the lead from Miami to 3-1 with a little trademark magic in the 85th, grabbed a pass just outside the area and avoided his defender to cut a shot from Barraza’s scope.

It turned out to be invaluable, when Jacob Murrell hit DC United in the seventh minute of the stopping time to reduce the shortage to one.

Miami climbed in one place to the fifth in the Eastern Conference with 52 points, but will have to wait to secure his play-off berth after the New York Red Bulls produced a 2-0 win over Montreal.
