Rodri has not been included in Manchester City’s squad for Sunday’s Premier League match against Liverpool.
The midfielder has recently recovered from a hamstring injury and was ruled out of Wednesday’s Champions League win against Borussia Dortmund as a precaution, City manager Pep Guardiola said.
He will not be in danger against defending champions Liverpool in a potentially crucial match for both teams.
Both City and Liverpool have had an uncertain start to the season. City have lost three times in their first ten league games, while Liverpool have lost four.
Arsenal’s surprise draw with top-placed Sunderland on Saturday gives both teams the chance to make up ground on the leaders.
Nico Gonzalez and Bernardo Silva featured in City’s central midfield in the absence of Rodri, who missed most of last season with ACL damage.
Record British signing Alexander Isak was named as Liverpool’s replacement for the match at the Etihad Stadium after suffering a groin injury.
