Michael Carrick said on Tuesday that Manchester United are «hungry for more» after a spectacular recovery under his leadership and a return to Champions League football.
United moved to third place in the Premier League with Sunday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, a sixth win in seven games since Carrick was appointed manager until the end of the season in mid-January.
The Red Devils, who have had the best form of any team in the competition since Carrick’s arrival, travel to Newcastle on Wednesday. They are six points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea, with the top five almost certain to qualify for the Champions League thanks to the England side’s strong showing in Europe this season.
But Carrick said it was important to stay “in the moment” as United look to maintain their momentum.
“We certainly won’t get carried away,” he said. “I think you have to have confidence and understand that series of wins are difficult to achieve.

“But we are definitely hungry for more, and we have to try to keep it going as long as possible and stay consistent.”
The former United midfielder said it is important not to look too far ahead as the three-time European champions look to return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2023/2024 season.
“I think we’re in a good position and we’ve earned it a little bit,” he said. “The boys have earned it and from now on we have to try to make the best of it.
He added: “In terms of talent and skills, I think the boys have shown what they can do.
“And then there’s that balance between good habits, good behavior and actually looking out for each other at certain times. You really have to empathize and show that good spirit and team spirit, so I can’t say enough about the players.»
