Manchester United Manager Amorim says that even Pope can make him change his RUG-three system

Manchester United -boss Ruben Amorim said that even the Pope could make him deviate from playing with a back three despite the increasing pressure after a gloomy run, adding that leaving his preferred formation would undermine him in the eyes of his players.

Amorim took the lead for United in November, but led it to only seven victories in 27 league games and the worst finish ever in the Premier League.

The start of this season was also far from convincing, with the Portuguese manager supervising one win in four Premier League matches and a Shock League Cup exit to League Two (fourth) side Grimsby.

During his term of office he used three central backs at United, despite the rest of the «Big Six», all to play four.

Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of United, visited the club’s training field on Thursday and Amorim was later asked whether the British billionaire had proposed to change the attitude of the team.

«No, no, no … even the pope will not change (this). This is my job. This is my responsibility. This is my life. So I will not change that,» Amorim told reporters prior to the home meeting of United with Chelsea.

«If I am a player and I have a coach who, with a lot of pressure and (people) around the world, say:» You have to change the system, «says» I’m going to change, «they will look at me in a different way.

«Everything is important when you think about the impact that a decision on the team will have. I do things in my way. I hope to have the time to change, but it will be an evolution.»

Amorim has also received criticism of his decision to play Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role in midfield, despite the fact that the Portuguese international had previously been successful in a more attacking position.

«I want Bruno to have more possession to control the game,» said Amorim.

“Maybe he doesn’t have the same freedom to get in the box, but he comes there and can take his photos. Sometimes we miss Bruno a little in front, but if (Matheus) Cunha is there, we have an extra player.

«I just try to balance the team and introduce the game, and I see Bruno well. He is frustrated because he does not win and sometimes he likes to continue. But he has a job to do.»
