Manchester United wins three times in a row for the first time under Amorim and beats Brighton 4-2

Manchester United’s improvement under coach Ruben Amorim continued as Matheus Cunha, Casemiro and two goals from Bryan Mbeumo secured a 4-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, their third successive win in the Premier League.

To build on last weekend’s first win over Liverpool since 2016, Cunha fired a sublime strike into the bottom corner in the 24th minute, the Brazilian’s first goal for United.

Ten minutes later there was luck with Brazilian Casemiro’s second, his shot taking a huge deflection before finding the net, and Mbeumo’s well-taken third just after the hour mark put the hosts in full control.

Danny Welbeck’s sublime free-kick against his former club secured a setback for Brighton, before Charalampos Kostoulas’ stoppage-time header set up a nerve-wracking finish at Old Trafford.

As Brighton pushed everyone forward in search of an equalizer in second-half stoppage time, Mbeumo fired a fine strike into the roof of the net to lift United into fourth place in the standings. Brighton remained 12th.

BRIGHTON BIG TEST FOR UNITED

The visit of Brighton provided a major test for an improving United as no team has won more league games against United than their most recent opponent since the start of the 2021/22 season.

The win at Anfield was the first time Amorim had achieved back-to-back league wins since taking charge 11 months ago, but the United manager insisted the revival would be undone if his side slipped again against Brighton.

Welbeck forced a fine save from United goalkeeper Senne Lammens early on as Brighton started well, but Cunha’s precise finish set the house on edge. Since the start of last season, Cunha has scored more goals from outside the box than any other Premier League player in all competitions.

Casemiro’s strike deservedly put a dominant United further ahead, with more chances coming and going to extend the hosts’ lead before half-time.

Mbeumo followed up his Liverpool goal with the third, putting United in a seemingly untouchable position.

However, proof that the Red Devils are far from done came when mistakes crept in and Welbeck sparked Brighton’s comeback.

United appeared on the ropes when Kostoulas struck, but Mbeumo secured the three points in style, a third straight United League win for the first time since August 2024.
