Marc Guehi wanted to stay in Crystal Palace while Liverpool moves stalls


Crystal Palace -defender Marc Guehi’s proposed transfer to Liverpool collapsed on Monday, despite the fact that the Premier League champion a reported 35 million pounds ($ 47.28 million) deal for the English international, said British media.

The 25-year-old, who is out of the contract at the end of the season, is said to have undergone a medical medical in London prior to the move, but now seems to stay in Selhurst Park.

Palace captain Guehi scored on Sunday in the 3-0 win on his side in Aston Villa, after which manager Oliver Glasner made it clear that he did not want the defender to leave.

«This is our captain. We have to keep him. I told the chairman (Steve Parish),» said Glasner on Sunday.

«I love Marc, he is such a professional player and such a nice guy. We have to keep him for the future of Crystal Palace,» he added.

Palace moved on Monday to sign Toulouse-Jongere Jaydee Canvot, but according to reports, the London club was cautious to leave Guehi unless it signed two center-backs.

Guehi came through the ranks in Chelsea and had a loan period in Swansea City before he came to Palace in 2021. And has been a fixed value in the English team since his first senior cap in 2022.

He was an important part of the palace team that won the club’s first silverware last season, defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final and is a favorite with the fans of the club.

The news he is staying will be a big boost for Glasner, although Palace will probably lose him during a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract ends.
