Marcus Rashford wants to make sure Barcelona stays permanently

Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford said he hopes to stay at the Spanish club after his loan spell from Manchester United. He described the move as the change he needed after spending his entire career in England.

Barcelona will cover Rashford’s wages on this season-long loan after the Manchester-born player accepted a pay cut, with an option to buy worth around €30 million.

Rashford’s contract at United runs until 2028 but his future at Old Trafford looks bleak after falling out with manager Ruben Amorim last year. The 27-year-old has since rediscovered his form under Barcelona coach Hansi Flick.

“Definitely,” said Rashford ESPN when asked if he wanted to stay in Barcelona. «I enjoy this football club and I think that for everyone who loves football, Barcelona is one of the most important clubs in the history of football. For a player it is an honor.»

The England international, who first revived his form last season during a short loan spell at Aston Villa, has gone one step further at Barcelona, scoring five goals and providing six assists in 12 games in all competitions.

Ahead of what would be his first El Clásico on Sunday, Rashford said his move abroad has given him a new perspective.

«People forget this, but I spent 23 years of my life at Manchester United. So sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe that’s the case with me too and I enjoy everything,» he said.
