Meet Tatjana Haenni, the first female CEO in German football

RB Leipzig appointed Tatjana Haenni as the club’s new CEO on Wednesday, making her the first female club boss in German football history.

The 59-year-old Swiss will take over on January 1 and will lead the management of Leipzig.

A former footballer, Haenni played 23 matches for the Swiss national team. Since her retirement, she has held sports administrative positions at UEFA, FIFA and the Swiss Football Association (SFV).

“I can’t wait to get started in January and get to know the club on a deeper level,” Haenni said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Together we want to continue on the already successful path and achieve our ambitious goals.”

RB Leipzig were promoted to the top level for the first time in 2016, won two German Cups and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2020.

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp took over as Red Bull’s global head of football in January 2025, overseeing the multi-club network that includes clubs in Leipzig, Salzburg, New York and Bragantino.
