I woke up with a storm that is still devastating abroad. Having reviewed the weather yesterday, I knew that it couldn’t spend much longer. So I simply established another alarm for thirty more minutes, and quickly came out.
When I was properly awake, the perfect day had gone to start. I did not bother to eat anything, for some reason, I could not endure any food and come out again.
The path is really in the crisis now. It is not the lack of points of view that bothers me … that has been consistent from the Shenondoahs. I guess it’s more than monotony. And the pain. It’s not bad, yes. But I know I’ve been pressing it with mileage. That is partly because there is only … Nothing good here in Pa (forgiveness for those who live here). And they are not the rocks, they have not reached so badly! It’s the lack of shelters, I think.

The other problem with all this monotony is to get stuck in my own head on my backpack and my shoes. I am declaring it, going without a hip belt could be one of the most silly decisions I have taken so far. But again, he felt great in all the Shenondoahs … I don’t know what he changed. Hiking without firm templates is also exhausting my feet faster. But, the strength training I know is vital. And this still feels better in my joints. I took some breaks throughout the morning, but I honestly don’t have much to inform. There is a section of the path that is informed as «flooded» of the Castor’s activity, but in reality I found it manageable. My feet were already wet from the path with leftover puddles everywhere, so I simply crossed myself. The water really cleaned my shoes!

Approximately half the day, I returned to a perfect day to take a break in the stay in the week. This season, it is actually being managed by Sarge, whom I met in Hot Springs! Unfortunately he had to leave his attempt this year due to damage his MCL near Damascus, but will start again from next year. We had connected on my very peculiar knowledge in the AP area, so it was fun to see it here again.
I spent about an hour and a half here with a perfect day. One of the tasks I had to attend was to replace my phone’s screen protector. I am a Klutz with my hands, and with Deet making me slippery, even more than ever. So, I have encountered a problem in which my phone still flys from my hands every time I took it out. A few days ago, I dropped it and landed on the screen. It is not too much problem … except that the screen protector had broken just over my selfie camera! In what I trust. Then … I had one delivered here.
The Stay-At-Swatara is in a beautiful location, and is currently in the building process in its bunk. If it weren’t 2025, I would actually have stayed! But unfortunately, the 501 shelter to a few miles ahead, a legendary shelter, is being dragged after this season. So, I wanted to stay there at night. Perfect day and lunch, and then moved on.

The rest of the day was a road walking, a climb and a very long trustee, again. And again, I just didn’t feel it. The shoulder pain, the pain of the feet, there was simply nothing that distracts me from it. So I spent a lot of time trapped in my own head. I tried podcasts, audiobooks and music, none of them rejuvenating myself. Recently I started another electronic book that I enjoy reading … but I really can’t do it in technical field. Then … I just walk …

There are longer rock fields. But nothing wrong. None as bad as between Pearisburg and Daleville, or in the roller coaster. Am I missing something? The biggest rocks are fine. They are the ones who eat my posts that worry me.

We arrived at the 501 refuge relatively late, but fortunately one of the three pizzerias was still open! We quickly put in an order and ate. It is very nice to have a real meal after a long backpacker. I grabbed an Alfredo de Camarones paste, which could be a sacrilege, but I didn’t care. After the Stromboli in Pen Mar, I think I’m good with pizza for a while.
The 501 shelter is a beautiful cabin, with board games, Porta, showers, a caregiver, the works! Unfortunately, due to the federal funds that are dried, it is demolishing after this season. What a shame! It is a beautiful place for the breath of the forest.

Now, I’m just hitting the Shetler’s table. No one else is here, which is disturbing. However, that makes sense, the last two days have been great thrusts! At least I have two mice running for company … I hope the rodent hangs in the refuge winery.
