Milner equals Barry’s record: List of players with most Premier League appearances

Brighton and Hove Albion’s James Milner equaled the record for most Premier League appearances during his side’s match against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Wednesday.

Milner recorded his 653rd appearance in the competition and now shares first place on the all-time list with Gareth Barry. The midfielder achieved this feat when he came on as a substitute in the 22nd minute.

The 40-year-old started his Premier League career with Leeds United in 2002 and went on to play for clubs including Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Liverpool before moving to Brighton.

The three-time Premier League champions are the only active player to have made more than 500 appearances in the competition and could potentially rewrite the record books in Brighton’s next match against Brentford on February 21.
