The performance of Minerva Academy to win three titles in Europe during his recent tour was described as a «new beginning for Indian Football» by Minister of Sport Mansukh Mandaviya, who congratulated the players of the Academy here on Thursday.
The Onder-14/15 team of 22 players toured Europe in July-August and won three trophies, including Gothia Cup in Sweden, Dana Cup in Denmark and Norway Cup in Norway.
«This is a new beginning for Indian football in our search to reach more glory in the international arena,» said Mandaviya.
«More emphasis needs to be placed on sports science, nutrition and mental resilience of these young people through psychologists. This will keep India on the winning path. These young people must keep their high level of reliability and their passion for sport,» he added.
These tournaments are considered one of the most prestigious youth football competitions around the world and the team of Minerva Academy FC, which remained unbeaten in 26 games, scored no fewer than 295 goals while they had admitted a few.
Kontoujam Yohenba Singh (best player, Gothia Cup) and skin rom Tony (best player, Dana Cup) also earned individual awards.
The team played against various youth clubs, including those from South America and Europe.
