The Abhishek Singh Tekcham Transfer Saga seems to be approaching its conclusion, with Mohun Bagan Super Giant standing up as the most likely destination for the 20-year-old.
Abhishek, who had a year left on his contract, attracted interest from three Indian Super League (ISL) clubs -Eastern bengal, Mohun Bagan and FC Goa. While his transfer value RS 6 Crore, however, exceeded in the midst of a bidding war, East Bengal withdrew, followed by FC Goa.
Sports star Understands that ABHISHEK has reached a verbal agreement with Mohun Bagan, although a formal deal has yet to be signed.
Mohun Bagan, which won both the ISL-Schild and the cup last season, separated roads with Ashique Kuruniyan this summer and created an opening at left-wing wing-back. If the movement occurs, Abhishek could decrease in that role. He is also able to work on the right flank, where he could challenge Asish Rai for a place.
The young person made 22 performances for Punjab FC in the ISL season 2024–25, mainly as a full-back. He created eight chances and stood out for his energetic flank runs and defensive firmness, winning 86 duels and eight air fights. His impressive form earned him a senior call-up from India under coach Manolo Marquez.
Abhishek debuted his national team against the Maldives in March and contributed to a 3-0 win and Schone Lei. He started both matches of India in the international window of June.
The delay in completing his transfer stems from two factors. Firstly, FC Goa can still enter the battle again when late negotiations open after the potential sale of full-back Jay Gupta-Die until 2028 has been contracted at the club. Secondly, the uncertainty about the future of the Indian Super League’s long -term years has delayed their transfer activity.
Jay, who previously played in the second division of Portugal, came to Goa in 2023 and has made 52 performances since then, so that the club helped to a Super League title this season. The 23-year-old is in advanced conversations with East Bengal during a summer movement.
While Transfertmarkt Jay appreciates RS 1 Crore, East Bengal can ultimately pay almost double the fact that reimbursements and wages are taken into account.
If Jay’s movement continues, Goa could consider a last-minute attempt to sign Abhishek. However, the chances of success seem slim, given the size of the range of Mohun Bagan and Goa’s position against bloated salaries or transfer costs.
Previously, FC Goa CEO Ravi Puskur criticized the state of Domestic football and described it as a ‘rot system’ in which the salaries of the player are ‘irresponsibly blown up’. He also focused on football agents and accused them of draining the ambition of players for personal gain.
«It is not just about big contracts – it is about players who lose hunger. There is too much focus on earning, too little evolving,» wrote Puskur on X.
In the meantime, the lack of clarity has hindered the future of the ISL transfer plans at various clubs, including Mohun Bagan and Goa.
The Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), which operates the ISL, holds a Master Rights Agreement (MRA) with the All India Football Federation (AIFF), which in December 2025 expires the middle of the season for the competition.
These uncertain prospects have led to many ISL clubs imposing a temporary freezing on new signing sessions, although some continue with domestic additions. The FSDL has shared a draft proposal for the future of the League with the AIFF, but a final decision is unlikely before July 18, when the Supreme Court of India is expected to express about the Aiff’s constitution.
