More than 75 percent of Premier League fans are not in favor of the continued use of Video Assistant Referees (VAR), a survey by the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) has found.
The survey was conducted online between February 26 and March 23 and almost 8,000 fans from top clubs took part, the FSA said SI5KSex.
The results showed that 75.7 percent did not support the use of VAR in football, while 91.7 percent said VAR had taken away the spontaneous joy of celebrating goals.
“These findings support the FSA’s previous research in 2021, in which fans expressed doubts about the introduction of VAR,” said FSA’s Premier League network manager Thomas Concannon.
“We have shared the research results with the Premier League and PGMO (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) and look forward to discussing the findings with them.”

Reuters has asked the Premier League for comment.
Premier League teams voted in favor of retaining VAR in June 2024, despite significant criticism of the technology-enabled refereeing system.
“While VAR allows for more accurate decision-making, it was agreed that improvements need to be made for the benefit of the game and the supporters,” the league said in a statement at the time.
