Defender Romano Floriani Mussolini, the great-grandson of the Italian fascist dictator Benito, said he wants his football talent to mean more than his family name while he prepares for a series A-debut with promoted Side Cremonese.
The 22-year-old back, on loan from Lazio, came to Cremonese earlier this month after the club had earned promotion to the Italian flight via the B-Play-Offs series.
«I am here to play football. My last name? It has harassed others more than it has ever hindered. It is a tough name for others, but not for me,» Romano told a press conference on Wednesday.
«The less it is spoken, the better. I am here to express myself on the field, nothing else … I want to gain valuable experience in the Serie A, to take on more experienced players and play as much as possible to show my skills.»

Romano is the son of Mauro Floriani and the Italian politician Alessandra Mussolini, a former member of the European Parliament for the Forza Italia Party and the granddaughter of Benito, who was Prime Minister of Italy from 1922 to 1943 after a fascist coup.
Romano, who can also play as a winger, made 37 performances for Juve Stabia last season, who lost to Cremonese in the semi -final of the Play -Offs. At the age of 13 he joined the Lazio Youth Academy of rival as Roma.
«The match against Lazio will be special; it is the team I grew up with and support,» he added.
«But at the moment I am aimed at giving my everything for Cremonese, and I want to win it.»
Cremonese starts his Serie A campaign to AC Milan on August 23.
