Nemanja Matic signs a one -year contract with promoted Serie A Club Sassuolo

Veteran Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic signed a one -year contract on Tuesday with promoted Serie A Club Sassuolo.

The 37-year-old Matic’s contract with Lyon was recently terminated by mutual permission. He brings a wealth of experience, after long spells at Chelsea and Manchester United.

It will mark the second season of Matic in the Italian league after playing under Jose Mourinho in Roma in 2022-23.

Sassuolo won series B last season. The Emilia-Romagna club was beaten 2-0 on Saturday by title defender Napoli in his Serie A opener.

The deal includes an automatic extension for a second season if certain objectives are achieved.
