Nigeria’s players are fully focused on Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup African Qualifying play-offs against Gabon following the resolution of a dispute over bonuses that led to a boycott of training, according to captain William Troost-Ekong.
Players did not train on Tuesday in protest over unpaid bonuses that the media suggested date back to 2019.
But Troost-Ekong confirmed that the matter has been resolved, at least for now, with the Nigerian Football Association.
«Problem solved. We are together and, as before, focused on the upcoming matches!» Troost-Ekong said this in a post on X on Wednesday, without providing further details.

The federation did not respond to requests for comment.
Nigeria will face Gabon in the semi-finals of the African qualifying play-offs in Rabat, Morocco, hoping to secure a place in Sunday’s final against Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The winner of the African Qualifying Play-off will advance to March’s Intercontinental Play-offs, where two more countries will be added to the 48-team field for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
