Strikers and former winners of the CAF Player of the Year award Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman headline the 28-man Nigerian squad named for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco on Thursday.
The Super Eagles open their Group C campaign on December 23 against Tanzania before facing Tunisia four days later and Uganda on December 30.
Group winners and runners-up automatically qualify for the knockout stages, and the best four third-placed teams from six mini-leagues also advance to the round of 16.
Nigeria and Tunisia are favored to occupy the top two spots, while the East African sides battle for third spot and possible survival.
Turkey-based Osimhen was named the best African player in 2023 and Lookman of Italian side Atalanta succeeded him. Morocco captain and defender Achraf Hakimi topped the poll this year.
Nigeria has won the AFCON three times, most recently when it defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 in the 2013 final in Johannesburg. Last year it was second after host country Ivory Coast.
Nigeria will face fellow AFCON title contenders Egypt in a warm-up match in Cairo on December 16 before flying to Fes, the Moroccan city where it will play all its first-round matches.
