I have been advised to paint with wide strokes here. The day -to -day summary are not always as interesting as the general impression of a walk. After all, eventually you run out of different ways of saying: «I woke up, I packed my team, I walked and then prepared the camp.» That is an average day on the PCT for now.
But I also know that many of you are curious about the details of the daily life of the path. This publication is for you.
June 13, 2025 | PCT Mile 1191.8
5:00 am
I wake up the sound of my alarm and disinflate my sleeping pad. After changing to the excursion clothing, paste the rest of my team, I take it to my backpack and demolish my store. I have settled in a good place next to a bridge. It is 4.6 miles at the crossroads of the road that leads to the city of Sierra.
5:34 am
I start chewing a breakfast bar and I get to the road.
6:09 am
I reach a crossing of trails; Continuing directly on the PCT will take me to the road, while turning to the left will take me to a diagonal route directly to the city. As probably too early to get a hitch, I opt for the alternative route.
As I was in Truckee the day before, I will not spend much time in the city of Sierra. I will improve my refueling in the store, I will have a breakfast and then send some items home in the post office.
7:02 am
I entered the center of the city of Sierra, although «Downtown» can be a bit exaggerated. There is a small store and a post office, which mainly serve hikers. Neither of them is still open, but public baths are. In the same way, I could use a bathroom.
These bathrooms have loading and wifi outings. What else could want? One of them even has a shower, but after looking at it for a few minutes and deciding that I don’t need a cold shower on a concrete floor that Bad, I decide against. Instead, I clean myself with a soap towel and I feel clean enough.
8:04 am
The store is open, so I go to replenish. I only need a couple of days of food: one side of Knorr, a box of macaroni with cheese, a bag of fries, some pop cakes and some other varied items. At the picnic tables outside, I classified and repaired my booty.
8:36 am
I want some real food while I am in the city, so I cross the street to the Red Moose Cafe. I request to be sitting next to a current (request granted), for the WiFi password (there is none) and for a breakfast burrito. There are also milkshakes in the menu. I hope they serve as early and I am not disappointed.
10:03 am
The Post Office is finally open, so I make my final message: sending my socks and waterproof microspikes home. The path is drier ahead and I will not need them.
A little packaging, recording and payment later, and I have shaved almost a pound and a half of my weight.
When I leave, I meet Indy and Tarzan, who come to the city. We chat for a few minutes.
10:21 am
I start walking along the way back to the road. Before I can get my thumb, a place offers me a trip. It is less than two miles to continue, so we are there in a couple of minutes.
The climb of the city of Sierra is notoriously long and difficult, so I am not looking forward to the miles ahead. But the first bit of the climb is in the midst of some well -shaded and well criticized curves, so they don’t care much.
11:38 am
I reach the upper part of the curves, but not the upper part of the climb. From here, the path is hot, exposed, windy and covered with weeds. There is a side path at the top of Sierra Buttes. I heard it’s great, but today I don’t have time for this secondary search.
1:23 pm
I reached the top of the climb and began to descend. There are some dirt roads and paths in the area, so I meet some day hikers.
2:42 pm
I arrive at Packsaddle Campground. On another day, another itinerary, I would have liked to stop here. It has spacious sites, picnic tables and, most importantly, a toilet. Instead, I stop for a afternoon lunch.
Eating a bag of fries, a full -size giggled bar and a tamale walking, I look around. Although it is a Friday, only a couple of sites are busy. Weekends will probably not arrive for a few hours. It is a shame: one of the best ways to offer free food as a hiker is simply walking next to a busy camp.
2:58 pm
I use the toilet, I grab my package and start the second up of the day.
4:28 pm
In the upper part, I start finding increasingly large snowfields. They are frustrating but nothing technical. I really don’t miss the peaks that I sent home earlier in the day.
5:09 pm
I entered a clear and meeting Burrito and Lena, whom I briefly met in the store that morning, establishing the camp. They invite me to join them.
He is tempting. They are a good company and it is a good place. But I planned to make another 8 miles and this is too short for me.
7:13 pm
The snow has lasted from time to time, for about seven miles. But I hurt my step while I find dry land in the final decoration to camp.
8:02 pm
I arrive at the place I had chosen the night before. This is a late arrival: I am usually in the camp one or two hours before. But my three -hour delay in Sierra City delayed me in terms of time and I still wanted to make great miles.
Filter a little water, I start to boil something for my dinner and start configuring my store.
8:13 pm
While configuring myself, I listen to a noise on the bushes and I realize that there is another hiker here. It is Wiki, whom I have not seen from Bishop, and he is camping. He brought my dinner and talked.
It is a relief to have another hiker. Previously, Indy told me that a bear had entered his camp the night before. A little company contributes a lot to the mind.
9:02 pm
I put my caps for the ears and I give myself at night. It is a little later than usual, but it has been a productive day.
In general, about 30 miles and refueling. In the morning, it will be time to do it again.
