Northville Placid Trail Day 7: Miles 126-135 (+4)

Lost time

I couldn’t really sleep after 2, so I decided to get up early and keep going. I think I left around 4:30 a.m. I knew I had a much higher chance of getting lost along the way. Hoo-boy, I got lost. I didn’t take any photos of this, but I circled around for about 30 minutes because there weren’t any trail markers on the other side of the creek, so I kept guessing. Mistakenly. I made it to the top of the waterfall a couple of times. Fortunately, I stayed a little close to where I was supposed to be because of the GSP alltrails (which was incomplete, with only one straight line for miles). I stumbled upon the right path by accident, by the grace of God.

Some cool mushrooms for my problems.

Closing the Chapter

The rest of the walk went well. At this point, I was very excited to finish. I was too stubborn to try to hitchhike the normal way (thumbs up), so I really tried to milk a bad limp when I heard a car coming up behind me. Who knows why I thought this would work…maybe it was the 5 hours of sleep talking. But honestly, the trail was easier for my foot to navigate since it was consistently flat.

I was pretty sure I could make it into town with enough time to eat before my bus left at noon. I was glad I remembered to see how far the hike would be from the trailhead to the bus station (4 miles gone is no joke).

Post-hike activities

The city was bustling. The first restaurant I stopped at literally had a bar seat, and it would be a while before they could see me. It was cool walking around the Olympic Village and stuff. If I had more time, it would have been great to look around more. I stopped for real food at Big Mountain Deli and Crepery, and it was fantastic. They were also full, so I sat at a register next to the cash register to eat. My order was a pressed panini sandwich, basil pesto bread with egg, bacon, spinach, red pepper and goat cheese, plus a crepe with brown sugar, brie, green apple, walnuts and raspberry puree. They had over 100 menu items written in chalk on their walls. I would highly recommend it.

Then I walked to a gas station and bought some beers and a pizza. What a great way to spend the morning.

Prey

Hello it’s me

I found it!!!… oh… this is not Lake Placid…

The bus

Then I had to go to the grocery store to ask where the Trailways station was. It ended up being in the parking lot next to the dumpsters. So I was pleasantly surprised when a giant, nice, empty bus appeared around the corner. It even has a bathroom!!! Since I’m not familiar with the system, I was thrilled with the quality of the transportation.

I was also excited by the views I saw from the bus. The colors were exquisite, the mountains high and the water clear. It was a great bus ride, perhaps the best views of my entire trip.
