Cristiano Ronaldo, the most important goal scorer in International Football, made his debut for Portugal in a friendly against Kazakhstan in Chaves on August 20, 2003.
He was brought as a replacement in the 46th minute by the then manager Luiz Felipe Scolari. Simao scored the only goal of the match 19 minutes later to seal the victory of the home team.
Ronaldo has since crushed several records for Portugal. He made 221 performances and scored a record 138 goals together with 45 assists. He has scored the record for most performances and most goals for Portugal.
The next best goal scorer in international football – Lionel Messi for Argentina – has 112 goals and is far behind Ronaldo.
He also led Portugal to a euro title in 2016 and two UEFA Nations League victories (2019 and 2025). He also played in five world cups, where he has eight goals and two assists to his name.
