The CDT runs through 130 miles from Idaho while it is winding through the continental division. Because state lines run throughout the division, we also spend a good amount of time in Montana during this section (but we are going to ignore that part)! Here are some thoughts about our favorite things and feelings of our time in Idaho.

Magic Fav Trail:
Cloud: My mother picked us up in Bannock Pass! He drove 5 and a half hours to catch us for a couple of days of rest and relaxation in Salmon, Idaho. Beer passed, snacks and hugs when it arrived and it was incredibly good to see her. We had been waiting for this for weeks! He also brought my dog and his dog to visit and my heart exploded to see how happy my baby was.
Mountain Goat: get a Sawtell hitch. They were very nice and unexpected people.
Favorite Day:
Cloud: day 97- Our last full day in Idaho! Awakening to a beautiful brightness of Alpen began this wonderful day off. The first miles were crosses and picturesque while we contoured around the peaks. We could see deeply in each valley and the peaks of those that we had come in the previous days. The path was soft and fast through the forests of Lodgepole while we descended and climbed again. Huckleberries aligned the path for 10 miles and stopped and forged any opportunity we have! We arrived at Big Hole Pass around 12:30 pm and decided to move on, since it was very early in the day. The walk was easy and pleasant all day!
Mountain goat: day 90- Uploading the Elk mountain. Excellent views and meet a lot of hikers from Sobo. It is surprising to see all the progress between the different groups.
Less favorite day:
Cloud and Mountain Goat: Day 82- Our first day in Idaho. Hiking itself was easy on the roads that led to Island park. It was the 4x4s who made this day unpleasant. One after another, sometimes 30 in a row, it happened to us. They flew around the corner and kicked a ton of dust on our faces. In addition, the walking road was hot and exposed. 10/10 I do not recommend it.
Best camping place:
Cloud: We find an epic camp in the trees just below the Cottonwood Peak crest. It was flat, in a bed of pine needles, shaded all day, near a calm stream and surrounded by a meadow of wild flowers. The best part was that we arrived around 11:00 am and we had most of the day to enjoy it!
Mountain goat: A sweet point in Sawtell Mountain. While we were in Island Park, we ate a lot in Subway and had a free beer from a friend and we were not eager for a long climb on a road. However, we end up getting an easy hitch and decided to camp at the top with a large view.
Worst Camp Spot:
Cloud: During the last miles of a long, exposed and difficult day, a storm came out of nowhere, which forced us to hurry a steep crest in the trees. There was practically no place to establish a camp, but with the rain arriving, we quickly throw the store right next to the path in the only flat place we could find. The most aggressive flies invaded us while we struggled to place everything. The tensions were high and we were aggravated by the situation. We were planning camping near this area that night anyway, but we would have pushed further if it were not for the weather.
Mountain Goat: The site we found on the first day of Lima. I was incredibly inclined and difficult to handle.
Favorite city stop:
Cloud and mountain goat: Salmon! We had two zeros with my mother there and they were perfect. The salmon is loved and had everything we needed and something else. We spent time playing in the river with the dogs, we went to play bowling, we walked in Goldbug Hot Springs, we toured the brewery through the city and went to the bakery for delicious cakes (twice)! The city itself was wonderful, but having my mother and my dog there they made it very special.
Minimum Parade of the Favorite City:
Cloud and mountain goat: Lima. While it is technically in Montana, I will tell it in this section since the path entered and left both states throughout this section. It was difficult to reach Lima, small and expensive. We organize a transport service of $ 40 to the city with the local motel, since access to it is the I-15. It is very scary and illegal, getting hooked on the interstatal, so it was basically our only option. Our only way to wash clothes and drink a shower was to reserve a room on the motel, which was another additional cost, and our only refueling option was the service station. The people of the city were kind, but it was not yet my favorite place.
