Oregon ends strong! – The walk

The walk, although Oregon began a bit rough, but it was strong in the end with some spectacular natural characteristics.

Zero in sisters

I spent two nights in sisters, shared a hotel room with Las Vegas and 3 of his friends Strode, Parachute and a nursing child (Bounder) called Plate that is from a city near mine called Viera. I have met many sobo’s lately. I can say who is Nobo (North Bounder) and who is immediately so much when looking at them. The Sobo still have that silly smile on their face as if they were having fun. Your equipment and clothing are still clean. Nobo, on the other hand, is demacious with stained and torn clothes and a distant look in his eyes that says «Is this path to finish»?

The second day of zero, Vegas and his friends went to curve or meet other friends and made a river float. We spent the best moment spending a couple of lazy hours floating and laughing. After the float, we all went to a place of everything you can eat and fill ourselves. The next day, Vegas and Company went to the days of path and stalls and I returned to the road. I would have loved to go to the days of the path, but I felt that I did not have the days free.

A rainy day and a night reflection

This day I walked around 3 fingers of the mountain with distant views of Mt Jefferson and Mt Hood. It was a beautiful walk until I got into the extensive burning section. Much of the Oregon section of the PCT is very scared by burns and fallen trees. It really is very sad because the State must have been very beautiful at the same time. He decided to stop and camp near a pond.

The next day I got up and left quite early, but it was super fog. It was supposed to be a day with beautiful views of Mount Jefferson, but I saw nothing due to fog. He stayed like this all day and began to rain slightly after lunch. One of the streams got out of control and had a really incomplete crossing. Again I had to walk through a lot of burns and had a lot of uphill. After about 25 miles, he decided to call him one day for another pond. I had all the place for me. I was wet outside, so I ate inside my store and did not leave once I entered my store. The wind was howling outside and at some point in the middle of the night it began to rain a lot. I settled in some trees that blocked most of the wind. Thank God, I got a new tent and replaced the one that was dripping. I would have had a bad night with the other. The new one was tight and sustained well in the wind. I decided not to put an alarm and sleep, since I knew I would rain in the morning. It was nice not to have to get up early, I did two villages.

Once I got up and started, I put on the wet clothes of the previous day (nothing worse than putting wet clothes in the morning) and made my way along the way. There was a small resort about 5 miles away that had a general store. I like the way in which all these small camp areas are called resorts. All this was some primitive cabins in a lake without electricity, showers and only a toilet. Anyway, I arrived at the general store, I drank coffee and ate snacks while putting my store to dry. I was still raining slightly, but the store owner had the kindness of letting my things on the porch. I bought many snacks and drank several of its $ 2.00 coffee cups to keep it happy.

The rain finally yielded and I could do 17 miles per day despite the rain and wet clothes. I had a camp again. I am not sure where they are all, I suppose that still in the days of paths. I have come to enjoy these nights alone. It is so quiet in the mountains, there are no man made by man. Only the sound of the breeze through the peaks of the trees that rise and fell, it is as if they listened to the breath of the earth. Then I will occasionally listen to an animal in the distance such as the counotes howled or a owl grain. The sound resonates in the forest and is very comforting for some reason. I remember that I missed this when I finished the at and went back to sleep in my bed. The land as a whole is alive and you really notice when you live outside, especially at night. The Native Americans knew this because they lived outside. When we begin to live on the walls, I think it is probably when we disconnect and begin to compartmentalize nature as separated from our daily lives.

Government Camp and Timberline Lodge

After a pleasant night at the top of the mountain, they greeted me with a cool morning of fog. The hiking route was super gentle with moderate slopes, perfect hiking conditions. I walked through a lot of older growth pine forest without burns areas! I also have some very close views of Mount Hood. I found a good place for the store to spend the night. I made 30 miles, a new record for me. I only have approximately 4 miles at the Government City camp where I will collect some supplies and then I will go to Timberline Lodge.

He caught a hitch in the government camp for a transport service that charged me anything. There were two other couples who were from southern Indiana. We had a good visit before ingenuity, they left me in a breakfast place in the city. For breakfast, I took blueberry pancakes that were delicious. He waited for the Post Office to open to collect a package, then caught a transport service to Timberline Lodge.

Timberline Lodge is a historical hotel construction as part of a government effort initiated by Franklin Roosevelt to use people during depression. It is a beautiful hotel, but the most important thing is that the exterior shots of The Shining was filmed. That is my favorite film of all time, it has been an element of the desire list to remain in the location of the film. Although it was a bit luxurious, I had to spend the night. I told Sharon that it could be my Christmas gift. He did not disappoint me. The food was out of the table and even gave you a DVD of the brightness so you could see your room. A co -hike of Chez Republic came out and we saw it from beginning to end.

Waterfalls and volcanoes

After a great stay in the wood line, the path took me around Mt Hood and gave me some excellent views. I took an alternative route to spend a beautiful waterfall where I stopped and lunch. After the falls I had to cross a fairly fast current. Instead of taking my time and finding a good cross slot, I was impatient and fell into the current. I am a very good rock scammer, but I broke the number one rule. Do not go on an inclined rock, always at the top. I tried to jump on an inclined rock and my feet slid leaving me. I did exactly the same with the same results in the AT. Anyway, it was not very deeply very quickly and left quite fast. There was a group of upstream people looking for a cross point and did not even see my fall. I didn’t know them and I took my wet butt from there. I managed to put 20 miles before breaking for the camp.

The next day I got overload. Then I had to walk so technically it is a tropical jungle habitat, very misty and humid. After that section, the path opened to a magnificent view of Mount Saint Helen, Mount Whittier and Mount Adams if he had it right. After those views, I took a popular alternative path to Tunnel Falls, which is an incredible waterfall. The path is under the cataracts, it was really spectacular. The path was a job for the rest of the way to the Cascade locks. I went for blackberries and blueberries that were excellent for eating. I will take a zero before passing on the bridge of the gods (celebrities in the movie Wild) and in the state of Washington!

Washington does not have the best Wi-Fi locations to stay, so it can spend some time before my next blog.
