PCT Day 85 – 89: Desolation Wilderness

Day 85 – Finishing the Sierra section in Farout

I didn’t sleep well last night. Around 11 pm, I woke up with the sound of the rain hitting our store. Normally, that would not be a problem, but our two zippers had broken a few days ago, and there was no way to keep the water out. Fortunately, the rain stopped after only 30 seconds. I had cell service, so I spent a time reviewing the forecast to make sure we have clear skies for the rest of the night.

I woke up again at 5 am to a beautiful dawn. Chowder and I packed and reached the road at 6. We only had nine miles to reach Lake Echo. The path was mostly down and quite crossing, through the forest and some recently burned areas. We arrived at the Lake Chalet echo at 9 in the morning, I had a mature coffee and peach of the market, and we wait for our friends to catch up.

Hanging outside the Lake Chalet Echo

One of our friend’s parents was visiting Lake Tahoe and offered to pick us up from Lake Echo and take us to the city. We all went to Heidi’s and absolutely paved. I had an omelet, potatoes and three gluten -free pancakes, and I finished everything without problems. The hunger for the hiker is real.

After breakfast, we registered in an Airbnb that we shared with six people from our tramilia. We shower, wash our clothes and relax for a while before grabbing Chipotle for dinner and hitting hard.

Day 86 – Zero in Tahoe

We made a great breakfast at the Airbnb, then we arrived at the pool and the hydromassage bathtub. The hydromassage bathtub made a big difference for my feet and legs. After soaking, we headed to the city to make commands. We were refrained in the groceries, then we parked next to the lake for a moment.

Between a great storm, so we take refuge in the Margaritaville Resort and took advantage of their happy time with a couple of drinks. Then, we stopped at Target for some snacks, then we returned to Airbnb, we saw a movie and went to bed.

Be silly in Margaritaville

DAY 87 – Entering the desolation desert

Chowder and I were ready to return to the road and leave Tahoe. Some members of our Tramilia decided to stay an extra day, but we all agreed to meet in a few days in Truckee.

Chowder, TBA and I tried to get hooked together, but it was a frustrating experience. At one point, a woman in her car began to take photos, something that has been happening more and more. I have caught about a dozen people taking photos of me without asking me. It is spooky and makes me feel like an animal in a zoo. As a general rule, I always ask before taking someone’s photo. I understand that aspect through lovers and act differently, Hitchikkiking, loading packages, but we are still people, not shows. If you see me a trip around and want a photo, ask!

Finally, we got a trip that left us to a mile of the path. After another fast hitch, we were back on the road. Chowder and I started walking, happy to leave Tahoe’s bustle behind. The path followed the lake before developed desolation, and was absolutely impressive. Aloha Lake was a prominent, and we stopped for late lunch with a view. He winded, so the insects were not bad.

We continue beyond several beautiful lakes, we climb on Dicks Pass and camped near Lake Dicks.

Day 88 – Magic of July 4

It was a cold morning camping next to the lake. We packed and continue walking through desolation, passing more lakes and dramatic landscapes.

During a snack, we talked with Lost and Found, who mentioned that there were often magic of paths on a path about 10 miles ahead. A Tahoe Rim Trail hiker confirmed that he was there, which gave us a motivation impulse.

Magic of the path!

Indeed, we arrive to find three angels of trails that offer drinks, fruits and chairs. We stayed and talked for a couple of hours before walking another five miles. We do not listen to fireworks from the nearby Tahoe, but we agreed with a quiet night. We did dinner, we finished looking HeadAnd I went to bed.

Day 89 – Wild Flowers and Clementines of the Summit

We had three big climbs ahead today. We had planned an early start, but we had difficulty moving. Our bodies are definitely tired and absorb everything they can. We left the camp at 7:30 am and started the first climb. In the upper part, we had incredible views of Tahoe and the distant mountains, in addition to an explosion of wild flowers.

We went through a skiing station, which was fun to see without snow. After descending and filtering water, we start the second climb. The path was busy with the hikers of a day, including one with a howl beagle that made us laugh.

We had lunch at the Summit, where we met two friendly hikers who offered us clementines that had packed in case they knew any of the hikers. They knew incredible!

After lunch, we descended again. My feet hurt, my shoes were totally destroyed by the mountains, and I was counting the miles until I could change them in Truckee. We took a long break next to a water source, then we did our last tinker knob. Truckee views and surrounding mountains were incredible.

Feeling clean, we find a camping place. We start AndorThen he quickly fell asleep, excited to get to Truckee the next day.
