PCT SOBO DAY 5 – The path does not exist

Day 5

Home: Grasshopper Pass. Mile 37.5

End: Rainy pass, mile 61.2

Walked miles: 23.7 miles

When I woke up this morning, I cooled the fast wind, but the early sun warmed my store quickly. When I looked out of my store, I could see the beautiful red tones that came out of the sun illuminated by the sun. As it was still early in the morning, the mosquitoes left me to pack and ready for the day in peace.

Returning to the road, I started with a short ascent and then went downhill by several miles. On the way down, I met a section hiker that gave me Intel in one of the most complicated snow tours: only up and more. I understand!

Once I approached Bushy Creek, I had to fight plants to cross the path. I was so covered! The branches and leaves more than once hit my face. But when I got to the bottom and looked at the mountains bigger than the life that surrounded me, I cried a little. I felt at home, just where I was supposed to be. The fight was worth it.

Despite the beautiful location, I had not slept the best last night. In my stunned state, it was a bit difficult to move forward, especially with all the weeds covered with weeds that I still had to fight. This meant taking many breaks a bit too often. One thing that woke me a little was to see fresh bear scat!

Too soon, it was time for the biggest up of the day. After feeding with lunch and electrolytes, I tried to leave my sleepiness behind and prepare my energy for this challenge. On the way, I went to a boy sitting under a tree, but I said only «hello» since I didn’t want to lose my impulse.

The climb was strenuous but felt easier than I expected. At the top I put on the floor; There was so much beauty in all directions. The huge valley threw himself before me, creating a huge cradle of green. While continued, parts of the path were dragged, sometimes leaving only a strip of gravel the width of one foot in place. This was very scary because it is a long way down if one takes only a false step. To advance, I clung to the mountain wall and breathed deeply to stabilize my steps.

PCT SOBO DAY 5 – The path does not exist

After that tour, once again I fed for the last great climb of the day on Cushroat Pass. Going up, I felt that it was going to be flown from the mountain. It was so high and the wind turned around and between the mountain peaks. The snow journey that the hiker of the section warned me was not bad since I followed his instructions and climbed on the snow. It was a bit scary, but not as scary as walking along the path that did not exist.

Over the corner, once again I was surprised by the size of the mountains and the beauty they held. Looking at all the vegetation in all its perfection, I had to take a moment to assume everything. While I sat down, I spilled some tears, grateful that I have been blessed enough to have this experience and live in an abundant and full world.

I had to sit and contemplate beauty for a couple more than time before descending. I am still impressed by how beautiful it is; Its beauty is right next to the Sierra.

Descending from Cashroat, I wanted to see if I could find more hikers since I knew there were a few miles ahead of me. In the camp in which I had planned to stay, there were no tents and it was already 5 pm instead of stopping, I decided to eat an early dinner and then make 3.5 more miles for a rainy pass with the hope of finding some people.

When I got there, it was just me again. On the positive side, I had easy access to some of the cleanest well baths he had seen. Tomorrow looks like a relatively easy day, especially because I put a few additional miles. I will try to enter Stehekin tomorrow and then I will take a zero day. There is still some snow in the next section, so I’m not in a hurry to push more.
