Day 51
Home: TENTSITE, Out of Mile 907.1
END: Ashland, out of mile 935.6
Walked miles: 25.8 miles, 28.5 miles of path
This morning, I woke up in a cloud. The fine fog passed me on me when the breeze dragged him on the mountain. When I was full and full of breakfast, I could see the blue sky again. At the beginning of this section, I did not expect to reach Ashland so early, but those few additional miles yesterday pushed me to do so.
With the food of the city and a hot shower in my mind, I started on my way. This area had been on fire just a few weeks ago, so the nose’s ashen aroma assaulted my nose when I passed it. Outside the burn, the path was idyllic. The aromatic and burned yellow flowers perfume the air and the deer bounced along the path. I loved the color of dark flowers; They even coincided with my color palette!
After a few miles, I arrived at a road and stopped for a fast snack before continuing. Looking at my food bag, I had less food than I had noticed. It would have been difficult to spend another night on the road, so I was happy to go to the city today, even if that meant some push.
At a road junction, I made the decision to make the flattest walk and save an hour or less time. I went through beautiful country houses extended by a serene field. Where the road joined the path, I found the Magic path! Almost all the water bottles were empty, but I found one that was still full. This was the perfect moment because at the top of the next hill, I used that water to cook a meal from the mountain house that I had not eaten last night. Driven, I was ready to address the climb in front of me.
Up, the day the day was heated even when a few clouds floated in the sky. There were several trail records in this section, so I could see that there were another 4 sunlides ahead of me. Still, I had only seen nobos all day.
As the afternoon grew, I was getting smarter to get to Ashland. I was until the last of my snacks and I could feel that my hunger was launched. While walking on the wooded ridges, I kept my head down and concentrated on my task: reach Ashland.
After a last 4 mile thrust, I finally arrived at I-5. Woooooo! Now, I just needed a trip. He took a few minutes of hitch, but a woman saw me, turned around and picked me up. He had just been walking and headed back home. Perfect!
Ashland was a super pretty city! The city center was relatively small, so my hotel was a short distance from almost everything I needed. My first business order was to take a very necessary shower. While I washed my hair, I was surprised to see the brown water turning through the drain while squeezing the water. I guess I had been rolling on earth for a while.
Then, of course, I had to chat with janitor before going to dinner. First, I tried a pizzeria/brewery, but I had arrived 8 minutes too late, they had already closed their kitchen, damn it. My next stop was more successful. I ate 3 rolls of Sushi (I can usually do 2) and I really felt full! Mission fulfilled!
Back at the hotel, I washed a night clothes before collapsing in bed. It was a night night for me, but I was grateful to have a soft bed for sleeping.
And that is a day in the life of a PCT Sobo hiker!
