PCT SOBO DAY 73 – AWESOME TRAIL ANGELS

Day 73

Home: Bucks Lake Road/Quincy, Mile 1386.2

End: stealthy, mile 1399.5

Walked miles: 13.3 miles

This morning was lazy. I stayed in bed and had breakfast, relaxing and doing last minute tasks until it was time to visit it. The only thing that remained on my list was to buy my refueling. The Safeway was all the way at the other end of the city, so I made the walk and bought my food.

After all that activity, I was hungry once again, so I found the closer pizzeria and got the special lunch. Finally, it was time to return to the road. I stopped on the edge of the city with the thumb and umbrella. The sun was strong this afternoon, so I had to make my own tone.

30 minutes passed. Then 45. Then an hour. I had not yet been lucky. Even the guy who worked in the building where he was hooking said he was surprised that no one had yet picked me up. I think he felt sorry for me because he gave me a bit of ramen and a cereal bowl for a single service.

Yes, this hitch was taking a long time, but I knew that the right person would come at the right time. Only 10 minutes later, an older woman stopped and said he would take me «uphill.» It turns out that she was an angle of path that had seen me in Safeway and thought I might need a trip later. He was 87 years old and had lived in the area for more than 20 years.

«Let’s walk through my daughter’s farm and see if she also needs to climb the hill.»

Without particular, I was happy to go for the trip. When I arrived, I was impressed. Little farm was a dream property. The daughter and her partner had chickens, turkeys, goats and a variety of fruits and vegetables. The interior of his house was eclectic and unique in the best way.

«You brought us a hiker!» The daughter exclaimed when we arrived.

They were so hospitable that it was more than I could have expected. They gave me 2 mini avocados, a tomato, a mini melon, a lemon cucumber, fresh mint, mini potatoes and loose leaf tea. His generosity overwhelmed me. I had a smile on my face for how wonderful this stop was. It was definitely worth the wait!

We stay there for about 20 minutes, chatting and then packing my candy. It turns out that they had hosts hikers in the past, with one of them loving so much the place where they stayed for a week! I could see why.

Soon, however, it was time for us to go back to the road. In a few minutes, we were back on the path and said goodbye and they told me sincere thanks. What a day!

While walking, the memory of what had just experienced kept smiling at miles. Hiking was easy, since it was mainly downhill. Even so, I had wonderful surrounding views, especially in lookout rock. While admiring his eyes, a hummingbird flew towards me and floated 3 feet away from my face. This was the second time on the way that had happened; It was the strangest. He flew around me, looking at me from a hanger on the branches for a while before flying.

The rest of the night was looking for a camp. There were many since an steep mountain was descending. Just when the sun set, I found my place. I had to put my tent and cook for lighthouse, but I was happy to find a place without dead trees.

For dinner, I used some ingredients of my charming angels of trails and cooking green and collized Jews to add to my usual dinner. It was delicious!

Well fed and tired, I got into my quilt and quickly fell asleep.

And that is a day in the life of a PCT Sobo hiker!
