Police arrest 59-year-old with regard to racial abuse of Jess Carter in England at Euros

A 59-year-old man was arrested in connection with offensive social media messages that were sent to England to England last month last month during the European Championship of the Ladies, the Cheshire police said on Thursday.

During Euro 2025, Carter said that she had been the target of online racist abuse in Switzerland and even announced that she stepped for the duration of the social media tournament, that England won by beating Spain at punishment in the final.

The 27-year-old, who is black, struggled in the quarterfinals of England to Sweden while the Lionesses gave two goals in the first half, after which she was the target.

«After the reports, an investigation was started by the UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU), which collaborate in collaboration with social media companies to identify the responsible people,» said Cheshire police in a statement.

“Today, Thursday, August 28, Lancashire police officers have arrested a 59-year-old man from Great Harwood on suspicion of malignant communication with regard to some messages.

«He has since been released in research while questions continue.»

Carter received support from Ver and Wide, including her teammates, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the administrative body of the European football UEFA, her club Gotham FC and the National Women’s Soccer League.
