Premier League 2025-2026: One Spurs win would ‘change everything’, says De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi said one win could “change everything” for Tottenham as the full scale of his task to save them from relegation became clear after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Sunderland.

The Italian took over from interim boss Igor Tudor at the end of last month and Spurs started his first game in charge in the Premier League drop zone after West Ham defeated Wolves on Friday.

Spurs’ defeat, thanks to Nordi Mukiele’s heavily deflected second-half strike, left them two points behind the Hammers with just six games remaining.

Sorry Spurs have not won a Premier League match since late December and face a huge battle to avoid their first relegation since 1977.

But former Brighton and Marseille boss De Zerbi – the London club’s third manager of a shock season – said a win would change the mood.

“We have to work on one win, because with one win we can change everything this season,” he said Air sports.

«I have 24 hours a day and it’s not a problem of time. We created chances in the first half, just like we did last week.»

“The players have great quality, but we have to believe in ourselves more and the crucial part is to win one game.

«We can play much better than today, but after five or six practice matches it is difficult. We all have to stay focused to win one match.»

Tottenham face Brighton next week, with a match against bottom club Wolves looming, but it is difficult to predict where the next win will come from.

De Zerbi said his new side, who have lost half of their 32 league matches this season, have the quality but are suffering a crisis of confidence.

“I can be a big brother, dad, they don’t need a coach,” he told the BBC BBC. «They don’t need to improve the football. They can play better and they will play better once we reach another level of confidence.»
