Premier League 2025-26: Arsenal is late to win 2-1 at Newcastle

Arsenal defender Gabriel led a winner of a stopping time from a corner to secure a 2-1 Premier League win in Newcastle United in St James’ Park on Sunday and close the gap on leader Liverpool to two points with a stunning late show.

Arsenal climbed to second place in the table with 13 points from six games, while Newcastle is in 15th place with six points of the same number of games.

Newcastle took the lead in the 34th minute when Nick Woltemade rose the highest to meet a cross from a short corner and to go into it after Arsenal defender Crithian Mosquera had unnecessarily given away the set piece with a crime in the rear pass.

Arsenal was frustrated because it wasted different opportunities, but was noticed twice late when Mikel Merino threw in a header in the 84th minute before Gabriel found the winner in the 96th.
