Premier League 2025-26: Chelsea’s Gittens out for ‘a long time’ due to hamstring tear, says Rosenior

Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens will be on the sidelines for a long time after the 21-year-old suffered a hamstring tear during last weekend’s Premier League victory over West Ham United, manager Liam Rosenior said on Thursday.

The latest injury came as Chelsea, whose five-match winning streak ended in Tuesday’s loss to Arsenal in the League Cup semi-final, look to shake off the setback in their next Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

«Jamie, he looks a little taller. It’s a real shame for him. He has a hamstring tear. I haven’t worked with him in too long,» Rosenior told reporters on Thursday.

«Obviously I know what his career is and what an excellent player he is. So that will be a big miss for us.»

Left winger Gittens is one of eight Chelsea players out due to injuries, including striker Pedro Neto and midfielders Dario Essugo and Romeo Lavia. Chelsea won their last three Premier League matches to move up to fifth place and progressed to the last 16 of the Champions League before the setback against Arsenal.

Rosenior said the Chelsea players had reacted positively to the loss.

«The boys were devastated, and rightly so, in the locker room after the game. But I talked to them. You get setbacks in life. It’s how you respond,» Rosenior said.

«The reactions to today’s training and during the meetings we have had have been very positive. We now have to focus on the future, which is Wolves on Saturday.»
