Premier League 2025-26: Pressure increases on Postecoglou while Nottingham Forest loses to Newcastle

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes scored a brilliant goal and won a penalty when his Kant Nottingham Forest hit 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday to conquer even more pressure on Subvure Baas Ange Postecoglou.

The size of the task with which the Australian was confronted was clear again, because keeper Matz Sels was again the best player on his part because it had difficulty creating a nutritional opportunity.

After a filthy scoreless first half, Guimaraes gave his side the lead in the 58th minute with an excellent strike, took a pass from Dan Burn outside the box and curled past the desperate dive of Sels in the forest goal.

The visitor had given as well as it came to that moment, but fell apart after the goal, where Sels repeatedly took action to keep his side in the game.

With the assembly of the Newcastle pressure, he deduct an excellent reflection to send a Malick Thiaw volley to safety, and a few minutes later he continued to deny Harvey Barnes.

Forest barely succeeded in threatening on the other side, with Chris Wood looking like a shadow of the striker that yielded 20 Premier League goals last season, and everything that it received at Target was missing the power to take care of Nick Pope in Newcastle’s goal.

Despite his heroism, there was little that Sels could do when Elliot Anderson unnecessarily dropped in the 82nd minute to admit a penalty, and the German striker Nick Wolade shot with confidence from the place.

The win increases Newcastle to 11th place in the rankings on nine points, while the Bos van Postecoglou, which is without a victory in seven games in all games, 17th is with five points of the seven league games this season, a point above the drop zone.
