The opening match of the Premier League season 2025-26 between Liverpool and Bournemouth was briefly paused due to an incident of racist abuse of the crowd.
The game was paused around the 30th minute of the game when referee Anthony Taylor approached the Dugouts. Taylor was then seen in discussion with the fourth official, as well as Liverpool manager Arne Slot and Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.
It was later confirmed that the interruption in the game was an incident of racist abuse of a member of the crowd focused on Bournemouth wing player Antoine Semenyo. Taylor inquired both team captains and managers before he started the game again.
