United managed to equalize before half-time when Matty Cash was robbed on the right of Villa’s penalty area and Matheus Cunha fired the loose ball past Emiliano Martinez, but the joy was short-lived as captain Bruno Fernandes had to be replaced at half-time due to injury.
Although United started the second half brightly, Rogers scored again in the 57th minute with another effort past Lammens to ensure Villa would spend Christmas third in the table with 36 points, 10 ahead of his visitor in seventh place.
