Struggling Tottenham Hotspur extended their winless run in the Premier League to 10 games with a 2-1 defeat to London rivals Fulham on Sunday, leaving them still in danger of defeat.
Four points ahead of 18th-placed West Ham United, Tottenham left Craven Cottage increasingly in a relegation bracket after another derby disappointment following last week’s 4-1 home win at the hands of leaders Arsenal.
Harry Wilson opened the scoring for Fulham in the seventh minute, the goal given following a VAR review for a possible foul on Radu Dragusin. There was nothing controversial about Fulham’s second, curled in by Alex Iwobi in the 34th, with the ball swinging past Guglielmo Vicario and into the net via the inside left post.
Richarlison pulled one goal back with a header in the 66th minute, eight minutes after coming on as a substitute, to set up a nervy finish, but the hosts should have put the game to bed by then with missed chances and crucial saves from Vicario.
Fulham are ninth, level with Everton on 40 points and still pushing for a place in Europe next season.
Spurs, who only shot on target after Richarlison’s goal, remained 16th.
If the visitor was given enough space, Fulham could have taken a 3-0 lead six minutes after half-time when Emile Smith Rowe fired a shot over goal and just wide of the post with Vicario beaten.
Vicario then made a crucial save from the ever-lively Rowe from close range in the 62nd.
