Tottenham Hotspur continued his impressive recent Premier League record in Manchester City with a 2-0 victory on Saturday when Joao Palhinha benefited from a goalkeeper blunder by James Trafford and Brennan Johnson also scored.
Spurs, who have now won three of their last five league matches in the Etihad, maintained their undefeated start under manager Thomas Frank after an opening 3-0 win over Burnley.
Both parties wasted opportunities before Johnson broke the impasse in the 35th minute, largely thanks to the luie defense by Rico Lewis. Johnson locked a pass from Richarlison and ended with a shot in the upper corner.
The goal was initially offside, but that decision was destroyed by VAR.
Palhinha, signed on loan from Bayern Munich this month, doubled the visitors’ lead in the first half of the stop time when new signing Trafford tried to play inexplicably from the back to Nervy Haps of the crowd.
Richarlison jumped and rolled the ball to Palhinha whose deeply shot found the back of the net.
«First of all, the coach forced me to come here and showed me the project that he has here at Tottenham,» said Palhinha. «It’s such a great club and I am really happy that I am back in the Premier League.»
In the meantime, the 22-year-old Trafford started for the second consecutive game in the midst of speculation that City’s regular keeper Ederson is on his way to Galatasaray in Turkey.
