We had two days to prepare for the TRT once Ben arrived in the United States and had those two days to overcome the difference of eight hours between California and the United Kingdom. This is what we did during those two days:
I tried to get used to a new store and a new backpack
- Large tent: The original plan had been camping using the canvas that Ben already possessed. However, at the beginning of summer, while in the United States I had doubts due to its opening and I said that I needed a tent to a tent. Ben bought a tent (the Durston X-Mid 2) and I saw this only for the first time when he arrived. Therefore, we practice throwing it in my friend Kelly’s garden.

- Backpack: I had planned to walk with my storm of Osprey 30 and all my walking practice had been with this. However, while I was out, Ben made the decision that this would be too small and bought me an atom pack Pulse 40. It was not ideal to start walking with a package that I had never used, much less I used, so I made a couple of local walks from the neighborhood that pondered the bag to try to get used to.

Collected our rental article
- Bear boat: We no longer possessed one of these and are necessary for the TRT. We are likely to have use for one in the United Kingdom, so we decided to rent one from the sports basement. The rent of one month costs US $ 45, but an agreement in the store meant that when collecting the bears boat we received a $ 45 gift card to spend in the store.
I bought some additional pieces of kit
- Gas boats: We could not bring them with us from the United Kingdom and, therefore, we bought two small boats with our $ 45 gift card.
- Deet and soap: We also use our gift card to buy some Ben Deet (this was never used at the end) and a small bottle of Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap.
- Clothes: Ben bought an Arc’teryx Sun hoodie to use instead of the rohan shirt he had used on previous walks.
Bought food and water (bottles)
- Food: We did most of our food store in Safeway’s with the exception of some articles by Trader Joe’s (namely, its cups of peanut butter, aching sachets and dry mango).
- Water: We bought a series of smartwater bottles, since they fit well with the side pockets of our packages and were also the perfect size for our sawyer water filter.

Planned where to start
- Our friend Kelly had kindly offered to take us to the beginning and we wanted to choose an initial place that was easy for her since she also drove back the same day (a round trip of eight hours). We settled at the Brockway Summit.
In general, I was quite tired during these two days, I had just arrived from a busy two weeks in Alaska and seemed that I had also collected some diseases, since my throat was incredibly scraped. Preparing to go on an excursion was not something I really wanted to do, I would prefer to have had a couple of days to rest.
