Rain in my parade – The Trek

I wish I could say that today it was much better than yesterday, but honestly, it continued to be a comedy of errors.

Sometimes I think I long for the city for a journey experience: after all, if it were the other long distance paths, I would not even have the opportunity to jump into the city. But, again, that is part of the charm and captivating nature of the AT. Much of the walk here alone it’s not as inherently fun. Especially in the Middle Atlantic. But there is a ton of culture here. And if I wanted to loosen a ton of the path … Why not?

At least, that’s what I told myself when I got up in the morning. If I didn’t feel it, and I would like to try to reduce the speed to let hikers behind me get up to date, I would do it! And if I was feeling it, why not crush some miles today? However, the longer I thought about it … the more the company of others wanted. After all, Warwick’s film would be great. But would it be so great without other friends?

Today’s first miles were as always, easy. Originally, the land here was scheduled to have houses built on it, before the National Parks Service acquired and protect it as part of the Trail of the Apalaches. For those who do not know, the AT is actually mainly on «protected» land. For more information about that, you must consult the backpack radius episode with trailboss, which when writing, is the most recent episode (which could show how much it takes when writing these …)

However, because there were houses scheduled to be built here, the path itself was basically just a big path. Not until a few miles later I entered the desert really. But with that … he entered a new boss. The rain in the morning was annoying, but at least it kept everything fresh. But after the rain … there was no breeze. Nothing to eliminate moisture that only … was established everywhere. Rocío’s point was crazy, and could not walk without sweating profusely, or being invaded by mosquitoes. Even with large amounts of insect spraying applied, insects were constantly invading me. At least some views returned.

While I walked today, I finally met the other five lives along the way! It is fast, walking to an average of 3.6 mph … and their stories are interesting. In his few months along the way, he was shot, he walked through a forest fire, had Norovirus and had a ray almost hit his refuge. So four of their lives on the way alone is depressed. We walked a little together, but finally, I left while trying to keep up and let it continue on its way.

To be honest, today I was taking a lot of breaks. I felt I couldn’t move without sweating. Which meant that he could not arrive on time for a collection to the place of Mosey. Batteries When I arrived at the culver gap around 2:30, around the city of Branchville, I told myself that I would only have lunch in the tavern on the side of the path and reevaluated how I felt.

And I felt horrible. It is definitely dehydration, but also mental energy in me was gone. Again. I wanted nothing more to sit in that tavern for the rest of the day, in the air conditioning. There is an option to do it, with a motel in Branchville. But after about two hours of shooting the marbles in my head and waiting for a «storm» to break up, I did not continue to see clouds. And, after drinking water and letting the temperature cool, I thought «ok, I can do 9 more. Let’s do this!»

… three miles inside, and began to rain. So I got into the refuge of Gren Anderson tonight to get the rain. I spent the rest of the night trying to get the mosquitoes from my hands and feet, the only exposed parts of my body in the shelter. I would not mind loading too much … but my store floor was bleeding water when I woke up this morning. So I need to solve it too. I think it was only the store site that I chose … dirt and mud absorbed water during the night.

To be honest, all this time in New Jersey so far it has not been better than my adventures of Pennsylvania. I have been balancing the desire to reduce speed and stay with some hikers with the desire to accelerate and return to the «good things» along the way. I, for a silly reason, I am proud to be a fast hiker! But as everyone says, nobody looks back in his experience of trails of the Apalaches and says: «Curse, he would like to have spent less time on the road.» While this does not come to my end date …

But I just want to be out of the middle Atlantic. And the only way to do that? It is walking.

Reflections of the next day

Well, to my surprise, around 10:30 pm, when I was already well asleep, three to the hikers ran through the rain and directly towards the shelter. I had seen them the day before, and although I understand a shelter late … I have done it many times, they were … drunk. From his night in the tavern. Which meant that they were a bit clumsy when they were configured and jokes jokes each other all the time. Oh ok. The only real inconvenience is that it woke me up for a hotter part of the night again. So, when I took my air in the air for a second, I had to make sure to avoid insects as best I could from my exposed hands. Ow Ow Ow.
