Real Madrid confirms the departure of Lucas Vazquez


Real Madrid defender Lucas Vazquez will leave the club, the Spanish giant confirmed on Wednesday.

After his deal had expired at the end of the season, Los Blancos had agreed a short -term contract extension for the Spaniard to keep him for the FIFA Club World Cup, which they took in the United States this summer.

«Vazquez represents an example of the values of Real Madrid, making him one of the most popular players of our fans,» said Madrid President Florentino Perez in a statement.

«(He) symbolizes hard work, perseverance, humility and winning spirit that is essential to succeed in this shirt.»

Originally a wing player, the 34-year-old 23 trophies in the club, including five champions competitions and four LA Liga titles, largely won as a team player.

«I leave Real Madrid, but Real Madrid will never leave me,» said Vazquez in a goodbye video.

The Spaniard came through the youth system of Madrid and spent his entire career at the club, with the exception of a loan to Espanyol in the 2014-15 season and played 402 times in all matches for Los Blancos.
