France captain Kylian Mbappé was in Paris on Monday for treatment of a knee injury, but no surgery is planned, the Real Madrid superstar’s entourage said. AFP.
Mbappe was “accompanied in Paris by members of Real Madrid’s medical staff,” the forward’s camp said in a statement.
«In consultation with the club, he is undergoing further tests on his knee,» the message continued, «with the aim of optimizing his aftercare and preparing for his comeback. No surgical intervention is currently planned.»
Mbappe has been battling an injury to the external ligament of his left knee since late 2025 and missed last week’s Champions League play-off match against Benfica due to «persistent pain» during training, sources close to the player said.

His entourage insisted there is no disagreement over the treatment the player needs between his club and the French national team, who desperately want Mbappe to be fully fit for the upcoming World Cup.
«It was a bit of a consensus between everyone (Mbappe, the coach and the doctors), and we think the best thing is that he stops, that he recovers and gets back to 100 percent,» Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa told broadcaster Movistar late last week.
«It won’t be a matter of days; it will take a little longer, but I can’t say how long, hopefully not too long.»
It remains to be seen whether Mbappe, who has scored 38 goals in 33 appearances for his club this season, will be able to play in the Champions League round of 16 against Manchester City, with the first leg scheduled for March 11 with the return on March 17.
France has two friendlies scheduled in the United States at the end of this month, against Brazil in Boston on March 26 and Colombia in Washington three days later. The first World Cup match is on June 16 against Senegal.
