Author’s note: Hello! Late start from the future here. I wanted to write enough publications to have a perfect experience when I arrive in Katahdin, but with the Irregular Library of Monson, combined with a brutal heat wave in Maine (with temperatures in the 90s!) He made me not being able to write enough to cover on August 20, which is my summit date! With luck, I will have a computer and I will start finishing the publications soon. The end of AT is in sight! Anyway, blog post … Start!
It is surprising how when people are considered and make an effort of effort so as not to be as strong as possible when they wake up, I can sleep through anything. HM, that sounds like a victims complex. In a way, I know that my usual bad dream in the shelters is derived from the fact that I am a carving, when the vast majority of hikers tend to get up at 5:30 or before. However, there is a remarkable difference when people are doing the minimum to be complacent, especially during the traditional hours of silence of a shelter (which are generally 9 pm at 6 am or so …). When people do not shout at full volume, I can usually accumulate their sounds packed, and don’t get up until they want.
So, I didn’t take my sleep until 9, and boy needed it! After the brutality of the whites, a long night in bed was what he needed. In addition, as much as I appreciated Stay’s’s work in the cabins, the only inconvenience was that I could never sleep for 8 hours. As I only had about 8 hours among the last guests who were going to sleep, and the first guests who woke up, could not spend everything sleeping. There was always time to unpack, and then re -packaging. So it was good to put some closing today. However, while I woke up, I woke up to a … relatively unpleasant surprise.
There are a lot of comments on Faraout’s warning that Paul, the owner of the shelter, febre the sheets instead of washing them. I think what it does is if someone naked the bed, will wash the sheets, but if not, they will get a spray if it is not atrocious. For me … that’s just a minimum thing. Then it was a bit disgusting. Although all hikers do everything possible to clean before settling in bed … It is still disgusting to know that you are probably playing the skin cells of another person or something while trying to sleep. Oh good. As I explained before, when this is published, that will probably have changed.
When I got up in the morning, I took a balance of what I was outside and began my exploration of the city. Unfortunately, as most of the zero days recently, somehow I perfectly bound a Sunday, which meant that the library was closed. Ah, well, I still have my Bluetooth keyboard, so I could try to do a little. The other business order? More food! If I can’t eat well along the way, then I have to try to compensate as much as I can in the city, even if it hurts a bit mentally.
First was the White Mountain Cafe & Bookstore, where I had coffee and a sandwich, while trying to do a little work in the corner. The thing was … I just couldn’t. Libraries are generally pleasant and quiet, and as someone with extremely bad attention problems, who have constant stimuli of other people who talk about their adventures, walks or whatever is too much for me. Even after an hour to try to do something, I had not written a single word. Batteries
After a great rain, I decided to go to lunch. Even after a breakfast sandwich, I was still hungry. Gorham is unique on the way to have two Chinese buffets, Zhang’s, which is recommended and dynasty, which the locals nickname «die unpleasant.» However, with that reputation, I had to go see it. In addition, the other meal in the city was simply talking to me. Then, I took the trip and … they were right. After scarving some plates, my digestive system immediately began to complain, when I had not done it with the other buffet. UPS.
I took a walk back to the barn, stopping at Scoggins General Store just to see the gifts and such that they had on display. Nothing spoke to me, and I could not send postcards (Paul was not going to get stamps …), so I returned to the barn, where I met Cosmo, far and the secondary mission, whom I have not seen from Norwich/Hanover! Were all happily arguing their day outside the presidential and to be honest? It sounded brutal! Unlike my windy but dry day, they were beaten by the rain along the way by Madison, so they decided to enter and dry, before addressing the brutal notch of Pinkham -> Gorham Slackpack tomorrow. Even so, a long day ahead! I had much more to do today, so I joined them to see Princess Mononoke, while taking a nap on the couch.
That is … I was taking a nap, until Paul entered and began to ask if someone wanted to take a transport service to Walmart. Ah … there goes my rest. Alright. We increased 6 people in their Cadillac (the manufacturer probably did not recommend …), before addressing Walmart. Actually … I didn’t need much, but I thought it was important to make a trip to Walmart for the last time. It is the last along the way, since most Maine is in very rural areas. Then, he fell and returned with a good amount of relatively fresh food. I have a 2 -day trip planned in Bethel below, so there is nothing too crazy in the mind!
I spent the rest of the day mostly relaxing in the shelter. I entered the local Italian place, just to give life to the diet, before accommodating myself in the shelter. I tried to do some blog work and some stretching, but I ended up mainly yearning all night. Superman also appeared and decided to change his name alone … «Man.» I think it fits better!
Tomorrow to Maine …
